Post-Pandemic

I resisted blog writing during the pandemic; So much in the Court system was in the great global re-imagining of work as a virtual reality.

Family litigation transitioned; fewer in court options, and delays upon delays; a courtroom litigator like me had to place emphasis on settlement and hone negotiation skills to shape better outcomes. Immediate relief was rare, even when desperately warranted. The absence of redress added, I am sure, to the many burdens experienced by those with few safety nets in this uncertain world. Working networks became the work, not the lawyering of an academic or the advocacy of a counsel.

We won’t return to before pandemic patterns. We can only shift and morph and adapt as singular entities within webs of contacts, not as persons in offices, or courtroom environments.

I was told as a young parent of an infant never to expect one day to be like the next. That’s my guiding principle as the infant collective whole grows into some new version of itself each and every day.
